Dear Philadelphia.....
The Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness has been one of the greatest summers in Philadelphia nightlife history thus far but.....the summers not over yet and the raddest party of the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness is yet to come.
Yeah, we’ve had Liquid Liquid, yeah we’ve had The Rapture and Holy Ghost, yeah we’ve had Sleigh Bells and Glass Candy, yeah we’ve had Delorean, yeah... we’ve had Die Antwoord and Midnight Juggernauts, yeah we’ve had Deerhunter....well...almost, and yeah....we have LCD Soundsystem coming in September but.....the night I’ve been looking forward to most of all is about to come on Friday August 27th, 2010 when my absolute favorite DJs in the world, my dearest friends and my biggest influences on and inspirations for my own djing and for Making Time itself come to Philadelphia to play Making Time for the first time ever. YES!!! On Friday August 27th, 2010 JD Twitch and JD Wilkes, aka. the Optimo DJs, of the most legendary party in the world will be playing Making Time for the first time ever. This truly is the most exciting event of the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness!!!
JD Twitch and JG Wilkes are the resident DJs of the most legendary party in the world.....OPTIMO in Glasgow, Scotland. Not only are JD Twitch and JD Wilkes two of the best DJs in the world but they are also two of the best producers in the world as well. The pair individually and together have produced remixes for Liquid Liquid, James Chance and the Contortions, Sons and Daughters, Franz Ferdinand, Wolfmother, Boris, The Gossip, Florence and the Machine and more. JD Twitch of OPTIMO also has released edit 12”s under the name Betty Botox and produced an edit record and mix for my label, RVNG Intl, called 10 Inches of Fear featuring edits of Flux of Pink Indians, Honey Bane, Zounds and The Mob as well as an edit compilation for R&S records including a very rad edit of dance floor anthem....”Vamp” by The Outsiders. The pair have also put together some of the best mix cds ever made...literally. Their How to Kill the DJ, Sleepwalk, Walkabout and recently released Fabric mixes are literally the best and most diverse DJ mixes ever created.
I have known Keith and Jonnie from OPTIMO for many years and I was lucky enough to go to OPTIMO twice in my years of knowing them and I can truly say that that my nights at OPTIMO were definitely the best and most memorable (well...from what I can remember) party experiences I have every had in my life. In fact.....I had such a rad time at my first OPTIMO that I missed by flight back to London the next day (oops) and the party inspired me to write and produce my first original track, “Sunday Night in Glasgow”, along with Adam Sparkles.
As I said before, OPTIMO is truly the most legendary party OF ALL TIME. After 12 years of epic radness, on April 25th, 2010, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes celebrated the final Optimo, OPIMOGEDDON, at the Sub Club in Glasgow, Scotland where the party had been held every Sunday for over 12 years. Optimo, like Making Time, has had some very rad guests over the 12 years of the party but what OPTIMO is truly known for are the diverse, epic and truly magical DJ sets of JD Twitch and JG Wilkes...the OPTIMO djs.
The day of the final OPTIMO, Sunday April 25th, 2010, is a day that will forever be etched in my memory. I was in Philadelphia and Hot Chip were in town playing a show at TLA and although I love Hot Chip there was no where else in the world I’d rather be that night than at the final OPTIMO, OPTIMOGEDDON, at the Sub Club in Glasgow, Scotland. The whole night was being streamed live from the club online and I sat in my apartment until the final second I had to leave for the show, as did people all around the world, listening to JD Twich and JG Wilkes’ live dj set from the final OPTIMO. I could feel the magic of OPTIMO from over 3000 miles away through the steam. It was truly epic, as was the party every Sunday for over 12 years.
